Tour Programmes

Fading
Since the fourth century, the service of Compline has marked the end of the day, ushering in the darkness of the night. Much of the music here is inspired by this ancient service, evoking a contemplative atmosphere, including renaissance polyphony by Tallis, Byrd and Lobo that contains startling harmonic shifts and expressive word painting. Then there is a turning point; the light returns, birds sing, and flowers bloom once more, with contemporary reflections by Veljo Tormis, Sarah Rimkus and Richard Rodney Bennett.

Wishing Tree
Embark on a captivating vocal journey with The Gesualdo Six as they curate a collection of exquisite vocal consort pieces. Experience the wonder of Renaissance works, in which composers use musical architecture to celebrate love. Immerse yourself in lyrical settings by the Holy Minimalists, John Tavener and Arvo Pärt, and discover how contemporary composers across the centuries breathe life into poems and verses.

Morning Star
Join The Gesualdo Six and step into an enchanting sequence of festive works. For centuries Christmas and the surrounding seasons have inspired composers to new heights of invention. In this programme, The Gesualdo Six weave a tapestry of well-known seasonal carols together with Renaissance gems and highlights from the 21st century.

Sustainability

There is no easy way to reduce our carbon footprint, however as an ensemble, we are committed to doing all that we practically can to do so.

In addition to providing a grant to singers to allow them to purchase reusable items for travel, the group has agreed to the following steps:

  • To use air travel as minimally as possible, and where practical, travel by train.
  • To endeavour to plan an efficient touring calendar so that, where possible, multiple concerts are scheduled when travelling abroad.
  • To offset carbon emissions when it is not possible to use public transport, and subscribe to Ecologi, with the aim of becoming a climate positive workforce.
  • Where possible, to share one vehicle, and when hiring cars, to endeavour to opt for hybrid or electric models.

The group encourages its members to turn down room cleaning when staying in hotels, to reuse toiletries, and to travel with reusable water bottles, coffee cups and cutlery.

Members have also agreed to take personal responsibility to minimise the use of single-use plastics while on tour.
